Emily Macdonald | Content Writer

Journalist of 15 years. Highly skilled and diverse writer.

After a varied and successful 15 years as a reporter with News Corp Australia, I have recently relocated to Park

Slope, Brooklyn.

A highlight of my career was my five

years as a military reporter. This

involved embedding with the troops in Afghanistan and the Solomon Islands

as well covering military exercises

across Australia and the Pacific -

including in Papua New Guinea.

My general news experience includes covering everything from crime and

court to development and housing,

politics, consumer affairs, breaking

news and hyperlocal issues.

I am also an experienced features

writer having worked for both the

Townsville and Gold Coast Eye

magazines as well as Taste (Australia’s premier food publication).

I am comfortable writing anything from fashion to home decorating and

interiors, food, real estate and news or people-centred features.

As a former chief of staff and occasional acting editor of the Gold Coast and Townsville Eye magazines, I have

experience managing a team. I am also confident proofing copy and doing

page layout using templates.

I am well versed in both the full client of Methode and Swing and I have some

experience in Wordpress – namely in

sending EDMs and updating online

copy.

My second to last role was as a digital-first journalist at NewsLocal.

NewsLocal reporters are required to

take control of the entire lifecycle of a

story from generating the idea through to writing, taking photos and shooting video, web readying the copy,

publishing it online and pushing it out

on social media.

I have SEO and social media training

and am a user of Canva and Emplifi.

My most recent role involved covering

the 2022 Australian federal election in

the key seats of Sydney’s north and

eastern suburbs for both the local

publications - the Wentworth Courier,

North Shore Times and Mosman Daily - as well as for Australia’s second

highest circulation newspaper, The

Daily Telegraph.
